The goal of this project was to design a beer brand based on a musical artist of choice. The subject of my design is hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper. I choose to focus on the three groundbreaking mixtapes that helped establish him as a force in the music industry. Due to his popularity and dedicated fan base, I decided to create a set of packaging that could be marketed as a collector’s item for beer fans and Chance fans. Each box holds thee cans of beer, each can representative of each mixtape. Each beer is named after the most loved song from each mixtape. Furthermore, the name 79th Street Brewery comes from the location of Chance’s childhood neighborhood in Chicago, IL, which he often mentions in his music. Additionally, I designed an easy-to-use mobile app game to be played while listening to Chance’s music and enjoying one of his sweet-sour brews.
This project was primarily an exploration of typography as design.
